***Update - Polar region now changed 18/04/2013***
My latest piece! This one took a lot of work. I created my own gas giant texture which was quite a challenge. After reading most of the gas giant tutorials on dA, I experimented with several methods, and even ended up using techniques for parts of it that were not featured in any of them. Textures and filters were among some of the techniques used. However, I didn't use the liquify filter or smudge tool. Perhaps the aforementioned tools would improve my current texture with practice. I was aiming for a really turbulent effect for the weather patterns on the main planet.
I used 3D modelling for the gas giant as I wanted to show some of the polar region. I made my own star brush too. Suddenly making stars is a lot more fun! Now all I have to do is randomly scribble my stars on using a pen. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the old noise technique for stars. I find it a bit tedious and boring. Finally, I think that there is still much room for improvement in my space art so constructive feedback from experienced space artists is always a help. I will practice making more textures and hopefully this will lead to higher-quality gas giants in my future artworks.
